About Eastlands Library

Eastlands library is the busiest of the three branches and caters mostly to teens and young adults.

The McMillan Memorial Library initially had five branches (Kayole, Waithaka, Kaloleni, Makadara and Banda Street). Two of these are closed and the three others are the main focus of our restoration work. The Eastlands library is a stone throw away from the law courts and county offices (Makadara is an electoral constituency within Nairobi County) and shares a compound with the Huduma Centre, a public service hub. Prior to government-mandated library closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this branch had the most foot traffic of all three, at an average of 182 users a day, almost all of whom live within the area.

Most of the visitors here are young adults who are either using the space to study or are working on their devices.

Open on;

Mondays – Fridays : 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Saturdays: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

We Have a Wonderful Team

The Kaloleni Library is the smallest branch of the three and caters to a much younger audiences, mostly children.

  • Agnes Atieno Oyuga
    Security Officer
My name is Agnes Atieno, born and raised in Maringo, Makadara. I have been a library user of the Eastlands Library, Makadara since I was a kid. I was so excited to be called into the Facility team as a security officer after qualifying for the interview. My experience working with Book Bunk has been great and I am proud to be part of this organisation that has brought a positive impact to the libraries in our communities. Working at the library has been exceptionally rewarding. I am also an avid reader.
  • Antony Odongo Omuya
    Security Officer
My name is Antony Odongo alias ‘Mavado’ from Maringo Estate, Makadara. I have been using this library since I was young. I have learnt a lot of skills working as a security officer at Book Bunk. This position has allowed me to learn a lot through the training activities offered at Book Bunk. I come from a humble background and being here has improved my community socialising. I like riding motorbikes outside work because it’s one of my favourite hobbies. Thanks to Book Bunk for the opportunity to work with you and I’m looking forward to engaging with you more years to come.
  • Collins Felix Onyango
    Janitor
I am Collins Felix Onyango aka ‘Aziz’ born and raised in Maringo estate, “OFARO”. I have been a library user since I was young and I am so thankful to Book Bunk for giving me a chance to give back to the community I grew up in. I am also grateful for my janitorial role as it enables me to continue to serve my community. I enjoy spending time with my wife and children and working out. I am looking forward to continuing to grow with Book Bunk.
  • Kevin Keagan Omondi
    Landscaping Officer
My name is Kevin Keagan Omondi alias ‘Garang’, ‘Kingpin’ or ‘Tosh’. I am a proud Maringo Estate, born and bred. I got into Book Bunk through the work they did in renovating my home library, Eastlands. I am glad to now be part of Book Bunk as a landscaper and handyman, a job that I love and will continue to grow in. My time here at Book Bunk has exposed me to new interests like photography.
  • Staicy Atieno Monica
    Janitor
My name is Staicy Monica Atieno. I am a single mum from Maringo estate, Makadara near the Eastlands Library. I am a janitor at Book Bunk Trust. I have grown in this position starting as a casual labourer, which I got while Book Bunk was renovating the library. I worked on demolishing the walls, removing plastic tiles with a panga, collecting broken window glasses and sweeping the floors. It was hard work but I thank God that I can see the fruit of my labour. I am grateful to Book Bunk for this opportunity and am proud to be part of the change.
